“A Broken Heart”

“Where’s your heart little cat?” gasped Benjamin Puddles.

“It feels broken, so I left it at home today.” The cat hung his head and felt as gloomy as the rain.

“But why?!”

“Because, I often wonder if it makes a difference,” he replied. “The world seems a little darker every day, so I guess it doesn’t, in which case there’s no point in wearing it.”

“Oh my,” said the duck sad to hear such news. “Well, let me remind you of a few things!” he said quite sternly! “Who makes me giggle every day when they tickle my beak with their whiskers? Who makes the little girl’s face light up every time they purr? And, who’s holding the umbrella over me right now making sure my bow tie doesn’t get wet in this horrid storm while the rain showers them on the other side?”

“Me?” whispered the cat.

“Yes!” said Puddles. “You! The kindest cat I know. There aren’t many good hearts left these days and the world needs you! I need you. So, you make sure you tie your heart back on and never, EVER take it off again! Promise?”

“Ok,” said the little cat feeling brighter for his friends’ words. “Promise.”

An icy raindrop slipped off the umbrella and trickled down the cat’s back, but he didn’t mind as long as Puddles bow tie stayed dry.

What a kind little cat. Don’t let this broken world change you. Tie your heart on tightly. Someone out there needs you too! We’ll see you again soon, hearts and all!!
