Describe a decision you made in the past that helped you learn or grow.
Last year I obtained my certifications; Peer Specialist, Harm Reduction, and Medication Assisted Recovery Specialist. God is turning all my bad behaviors into good. I am so thankful that my past is helping someone’s future.
A peer support specialist is a person with “lived experience” who has been trained to support those who struggle with mental health, psychological trauma, or substance use. Their personal experience of these challenges provide peer support specialists with expertise that professional training cannot replicate.
Harm reduction is an evidence-based approach that is critical to engaging with people who use drugs and equipping them with life-saving tools and information to create positive change in their lives and potentially save their lives. Harm reduction is a key pillar in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Overdose Prevention Strategy.
