When I read the news concerning Christianity today, I am so grieved in my Spirit. I can only imagine what the world thinks regarding such news. The two biggest stories center not on an outbreak of revival, miraculous healings or acts of Christian love.

They center on man. Sadly, the church is also centering on man it seems.

The news centers on two men in particular.

One a man in a musical group who has acknowledged deep sexual sin.

The other is the death of a man who had committed sexual sin not once, but a public tearful repentance and then caught in the same sin.

This is what the world sees. As Christians we need to open their eyes to seeing a loving, gracious, caring and above all a holy God. A God who waits for all and blesses delayed faith as so many examples of believers are listed in the Bible (read the patriarchs in Hebrews 11).

There is another example of man who denied Jesus not once or twice but three times. The Lord forgave him and showered him with grace, mercy, and wisdom. Peter learned from his sin of denial and saw living in the truth of a transformed life was far greater than living in the flesh.

Peter’s experience under the anointing of the Holy Spirit caused him to write one of the greatest mentoring/counseling pieces of advice ever. It is a life based on these principals we must show the world and not just fleshly living.

Peter wrote” 13 Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. 14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”

17 Since you call on a Father who judges each person’s work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear. 18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. 20 He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. 21 Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.” 1 Peter 1:13-20
