Breaking News: Senate Approves SUPPORT For Patients and Communities Reauthorization Act

Today, by unanimous consent, the Senate approved the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Reauthorization Act. This important legislation reauthorizes several programs focused on substance use treatment and prevention, including:

• Substance use treatment for pregnant and postpartum women
• Youth prevention and recovery programs
• Housing for individuals in recovery
• Community-based recovery support
• Loan repayment for health care providers treating substance use disorders
• Overdose prevention
• Treatment for children experiencing psychological trauma
• Mental and behavioral health education and training for medical and allied health students

The bill also creates a federal interagency working group on fentanyl contamination of illicit drugs and expands first responder resources to treat non-opioid overdoses.
